Congratulations are highly in order for Dane (Porkchop) Oliver. He 
got his new sister about an hour ago courtesy of his mom and dad. She 
was born on 08/02/08 weighing in at 8lb. 3 oz. and measured 22 1/4 
in. long. Trudy actually wasn't due until the 7th but decided she had 
carried long enough.  Mike got her to the hospital and 15 min. later 
it was all over but the celebrating. Speedy Mike was quick to the 
phone to share his new joy. If you want to see a proud daddy, just 
look at Mike. I could even see his ear to ear grin over the phone.

resist myself from wishing Mike, Trudy and Dane best wishes for the 
new family member.

Mike is truly an excellent friend, a hardworking man, an awesome HAM 
and a superb father and I know that he will continue to be.  You my 
friend are truly blessed for the kind and loving family you have.  
May the Lord bless you, Trudy, Dane and the new baby girl.  And yes, 
your dog if you still have it.  He is also part of the family.

For those who have not gotten this or seen it.

The models and "Cone of DEATH" have this TS running up the
Gulf coastline all the way up to Valdosta.
Though the models I have looked at and have access to, along
with other sites, show this to be a Tropical Storm through
Wednesday 2 pm, when it comes ashore north of Lake City, and
making a bee line parallel to I-75 corridor, we can probably
expect some wicked weather coming our way.

a State Wide County Conference Call tomorrow afternoon and following that 
call and the DAC meeting I will be passing along any information and 
requesting information from each of our Emergency Coordinators as to what 
their needs might following landfall of this storm. The Sections Managers, 
Section Emergency Coordinators, the ARRL and the State EOC will be talking 
with each other via Conference calls as needed. We have already been in 
voice contact with each other during each of our Sections Emergency Nets 
today.  Please contact your Emergency Coordinator/Radio Officer and let him 
or her know about your availability to assist if needed during this Storm 
Event. Shelter Operators are highest on the
list of needed Communicators. The Maximum amount of time you should expect 
to serve before be being relieved is 5 days.

Per Paul's email, Polk ARES is now going to be placed under the first
condition code
of BLUE: STAND BY / STAND DOWN.
 
Blue signifies the before or after event situation setting from which all
members will be
notified of pending ARES ALERT CONDITIONS.
This also is a signal to prepare for changes in Activation Levels, in which
a call out to duty
is pending or the call out is being resended. Once information is released
from Polk Emergency Mgmt.
to ARES STAFF, you will be notified of the next action level as soon as
possible.

Our plan currently is a partial EOC activation again on Sunday for shelter
and emergency services planning and coordination with NWS, region 4 counties
and state EOC and hurricane center. We will stand up the Stuart center on
Sunday and have a full activation briefing there Monday at 3pm. 

More info out Sunday afternoon. At this point we are planning shelter
activation Tuesday morning or perhaps as early as Monday evening depending
on storm timeline. I Need to know Sunday afternoon how many shelters we can
cover with amateur radio ops. 

Reminder 146.985 is primary freq for operations. Everyone should have your
home disaster plan in place and get equipment ready by Monday.

The 2 PM EDT (1800z) Advisory from the National Hurricane Center forecasts
further strengthening of TS Fay on approach to the Southern coast of Cuba on
Sunday.

STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS...AND FAY COULD BE

In anticipation of Fay reaching Hurricane strength on Sunday evening,
WX4NHC, the Amateur Radio station at the National Hurricane Center in Miami,

will be activating it's HF and EchoLink/IRLP station on Sunday, August 17th
, 2008 at 6 PM EDT (2200z).


We request all land based stations as well as ships at sea in the areas
affected to send us weather data (measured or estimated) and damage reports.

If you are in the affected area and normally monitor on a local Net on VHF,
40 or 80 meters, we would appreciate your checking into the HWN NET or
EchoLink/IRLP Net once per Hour to receive the latest Hurricane Advisories
and to report your local conditions.

Please do not venture outside during the hurricane to gather weather data.

Your safety is the first priority.

 

There are many constantly changing atmospheric variables that affect the
storm's track and strength.

Please refer to the National Hurricane Center Advisories for official
information. www.nhc.noaa.gov

 

WX4NHC will be monitoring the Hurricane Watch Net www.hwn.org on 14.325 MHz.

 

Secondary HF frequencies will be 7.268 MHz and 3.950 MHz +/- QRM, should we

EchoLink "WX-Talk" Conference Room and IRLP node 9219 will also be

WX4NHC will also monitor CWOP, APRS and MADIS/MESONET Automated weather

Greetings all, I do apologize for the late note, however,
I will hold a POLK ARES NET Monday Morning at 10 AM.

At that time, I will have some information to pass on,
but furthermore, information on TS FAY. Once I have information
from Paul, I will let every one know as soon as possible.

As it is being told to me at this hour, FAY has not made the
turn it was supposed to earlier this evening. The tracking
models are now moving land fall north of Citrus County, and
towards Tallahassee.... To early to tell anything at this time.

Please check in to the net at 10 AM. I will see if Paul will be
able to as well, if not, I will try to obtain any information
he needs to be sent out before net time.

Good Morning, I am still planning on holding the Polk County
ARES NET at 10 AM. The following information has been obtained
from Paul. I need to as soon as possible who all will be able
to assist. I will be at work this afternoon from 2 pm till 9 pm,
but will be monitoring conditions when possible.

Again, POLK ARES NET THIS MORNING AT 10 AM and possible full
activation tonight or early Tuesday morning. I need 5 people
to volunteer for a Net control, and Shelter Ops.
I will forward you the necessary stuff for the operation of the Net. 

The need for communicators for the Shelters will be discussed
and a role call will be made for availabilities. SHELTER OPS
ARE BEING CALLED FOR!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL.

As it stands based on this mornings predictions, Polk County
ARES will upgrade it's alert from stand-by to Condition YELLOW,
ACTIVATION PENDING WITHIN 12 HOURS. This condition will be set
this evening when I return home from work, and I have been able
to get a briefing from POLK Emergency Mgmt. and Paul.

We will be moving to the Stuart Center today.  Initial briefing there at

I am having radio shop install dual band antenna there today for voice ops

How many operators are available for assignment?  As of now looks like we
need staffing from Tuesday morning to Wednesday.  

The 3 dual band kits are available for deployment.

WCF ARES areas, Polk County ARES will suspend it's 6 am activation
till further notice.

Just a quick notice for all,
Polk ARES is still maintain a stand by status
based on TS FAY. 
Land fall number 3 is still based to be in North Fla.
Winds have not died down either, and still Florida is
under a State Of Emergency. Once the State EOC has
declared the event to be over, Polk ARES will then
go into a condition GREEN. There will be a normal
ARES net Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
More information will be passed on during the net.

Greetings all, I know this is a little late getting this out tonight but
needed to post this so you know what is going on.

I will advise in the morning when I get up around 6 or so to review
the emails and what not. I have Dstar contact with Paul KJ4G, at any time
to obtain any additional info if needed, BUT, in response to this email,
I am sending a reply that Polk ARES is still on stand by here till the storm
has been declared over...

Please email ec at polkemcomm.org and info at polkemcomm.org IF you have
availability
to travel as a ARESMAT to the north Florida section for assistance. I will
contact Neil and Dee of our section staff to let them know, this could be
a WCF SECTION ARES Mutual Aid Team of several members, but never less,
please
do not go on your own accord. You will be turned away without proper
paperwork
in hand.

Reminder, Polk ARES is still in an activated mode, but on a standby stance.
This is Condition Level ONE, ARES STAFF is Condition Level BLUE.
The State of Florida is still under a State Of Emergency, as I have not
seen anything to release that as of yet, nor has Polk County going into a
Stand Down Mode yet. I will advise all Polk HAMS when this does happen.

The NFL Crown District ( Jacksonville and surrounding counties) may be in
need of relief amateurs as early as tomorrow afternoon.

if we can't fill the order from our troops.
 
I will contact you when the EMA request is finally complete for this
mission. I need name, callsign, class of license, equipment they can operate
and be prepared for up to 96 hours, most likely up to midday Sunday.These
amateurs will most likely be relief operators for the Crown folks who will
need rest.

I have two sections of Rohn 20 for sale, pretty good shape, one has a bowed 
zigzag where it was jacked apart. No rust, and straight. Rohn 20 uses the 
same accessories as Rohn 25, just a little lighter construction and load 
capacity, and one less zig-zag per section.

These are located in New Port Richey. $35 each picked up, firm but open to 
trade offers. I have a friend with two more sections in Lutz too, if you 
need more. I'll be home all weekend and can help load them for you.

1) AFTER CAREFUL REVIEW AND THE DECREASE OF ANY FURTHER WEATHER
THREATS, POLK ARES ACTIVATION IS NOW CANCELED AND IS TO RETURN
TO CONDITION ZERO, STAFF CONDITION GREEN.

2) THANKS TO ALL HAMS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE TROPICAL STORM FAY
EVOLUTION, AND TO THOSE WHO VOLUNTEERED THEIR TIME AND SERVICES
TO ASSIST WITH MANNING SHELTERS.

3) EVEN THOUGH CONDITIONS CHANGED OVER NIGHT AND SOMETIMES WITHIN
HOURS, POLK ARES WAS READY AND WAITING THE CALL FOR AND FROM POLK
COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT.

4) THANKS TO THE WINTER HAVEN RED CROSS FOR THEIR TIME AND EFFORTS
WITH THE LOCAL EVENT AS WELL.

5) KEEP AN EYE ON THE TROPICS THIS WEEK, THERE ARE TWO SYSTEMS
THAT BEAR A WATCHFUL EYE THIS WEEK AS THESE SYSTEMS MOVE WESTWARD
TOWARDS OUR REGION.

Subject: VoIp Wx Net on Echolink

The VoIp Wx Net is active on Echolink & IRLP.  Net control is currently
polling stations along the Gulf coast.  They have asked that for stations
outside of the impacted area connect to the following nodes for receive
only:  44445, 290251, 270177, 77433, 278173 and 269929.

Several EOC's, National Weather Service WFO's and the National Hurricane
Center are active on this net.

We are working to get the WC4PEM Echolink nodes back online soon.

Subject: Missing the LARC Meeting

My Mom Passed away at 8:18pm Sunday evening.
