A sincere thanks especially to President Patrick and Director Fred for the enjoyable picnic and radio special event station Saturday at Lake Parker Park, Lakeland.

A lot of effort went into the event.  Norma and I appreciated the opportunity of attending.  And eating.  And eating.  And eating.

To those who missed this club function, we regret not seeing you there.  Please take comfort in that Norma and I did our best to not let your portion of the delicious (our president can really cook!) hamburgers and hot dogs go to waste. 

Again, our thanks to Parick and Fred and all the others who contributed to making Saturday a fun day.

Randy,

Good point, but there is a reason for this time slot. The original intent of the rag chew was and is to offer an opportunity to some of the hams who were not as mobile as the rest of us to get together on the air and chat. Turns out, Charley is also picking up some hams who work nights, and others who are retired, and can plug in during the day.

On Saturday, April 28th, 2012, the local chapter of the March of Dimes will have there annual fundraiser called the March for Babies.  The walkers get donations for there six mile walk around Lake Hollingsworth and Lake Morton.

Our Club always supports this event and this year is no different.

Please contact me via e-mail (ki4cdy at arrl.net) if you can help support this event.  We need to meet at the First Presbyterian Church, 175 Lake Hollingsworth Drive at 7:30am. Assignments (locations to monitor) will be given out at that time.  The walk starts at 8:00am. We are usually finished by 11:30am.  We will be utilizing the Lakeland repeater for this event, so bring your HT.

This is one of our main support events for the year.  I know in the past that I have enjoyed this event very much.

The June 2nd Section Wide S.E.T. will be using Winlink 2000 (WL2K) as one of the important Digital Modes. The following might be very useful to your members in preparation for this event

On Tuesday, April 24th at 8:00 PM CDT, Phil Sherrod, w4phs, aar4mx, of our Winlink development team, will present the recent changes/expansions in Winlink 2000 topology and the enhancements provided for EmComm.  This will provide detail on the "Service Code" and "radio only" options along with detail on features that now support enhanced EmComm capabilities.

Dave Scolnick, Ko4mi, will speak about his experiences regarding the value of Winlink 2000 to Maritime Hams for their safety and well-being while on the High Seas.

Tonight at 6pm is the Monthly ARES meeting at the Polk County Emergency
Operations Center. The Address can be found at www.polkares.org, under the

The EOC HF, VHF, and UHF Station will be open tonight to use for those that
want to become EOC Operators.

CERT station operators will meet tonight for a "meeting within a meeting".

The Hurricane Awareness Tour, the West Central Florida ARRL Section SET,
and the Polk County TeamPlay 2012 will be discussed and organized. We need
volunteers for all of these events and tonight we take names.
