Hi George,

While I don't claim to be an antenna expert, I can suggest some things to
check.

1) Does the antenna have a good electrical ground at the coax attachment
point?

If you can remove the antenna from its mounting base and disconnect the
radio end of the antenna cable from whatever it is connected to, you can
then measure the electrical resistance between the point where the antenna
mounts to its base and the vehicle chassis with an ohm meter. It should be 0
ohms.

2) Have ypu checked both the center conductor and shield of the antenna
cable for 0 ohms resistance, and infinite resistance between the center
conductor and shield?

3) Have you checked the antenna to make sure it is resonant at or near the
frequency you are transmitting at using an antenna analyzer?

4) Have you verified the radio's output power using an external power meter?

Other, more obscure things to check are mic gain and transmit modulation
percentage.

I have all of the test equipment necessary to check these things if you need
any of it.

I can also help you perform the tests if you want.

Good luck,

Tom

one hears me. Can someone help with this?
