The Christmas Party was Great!  I had a fun time and noticed that we all look just as young as last years party.  Jimbo?s really does a nice job which I could see was greatly appreciated by the BBQ coated faces and fingers.  The desserts were yummy.  I don?t need to eat again until Christmas Eve. 

Patrick?s numbers speak for themselves...what a fantastic year.  I like seeing young people getting into Ham Radio.  It means that long after my shack goes dark the LARC will be here to carry on the traditions we are creating now. 

I will be at the LARC table during the hamfest in Plant City and hope to see everyone finding those special deals.

The holidays are upon us so everyone be safe. Watch out for the other guy that may not be watching out for you.

Recently one of our old CRT televisions died and we replaced it with new
flat screen. We had cable, and then satellite, until we discovered how
many channels were available free using rabbit ear antennas for our two
televisions.

Both televisions require(d) a converter box, and I was looking forward
to getting rid of the converter box that was attached to the dead TV.
However, I discovered that the sensitivity of the converter box is
better than that of the new TV. I did a channel scan. I was surprised
that several channels were missing. So presently I have the converter
box attached to the new TV. I am thinking of buying a new indoor antenna
that comes with a signal amplifier, probably something like the Winegard
Flat Wave antenna. I am presently using a simple (not amplified) RCA
rabbit ear antenna with a UHF loop shaped like a circle.
If the amplified indoor antenna does not work, I will consider a bigger
antenna in the attic or mounted outdoors. Any antenna will be cheaper
than cable or satellite.

If I do decide to install an outdoor antenna, I would like to hire
someone who knows what he is doing, and that made me think of you. Do
you know anyone who would do a good job? Also, do you have any thoughts
about or experience with indoor antennas that would be helpful?

I can't see them on my android tablet. I think the slideshows use flash(?),
and you can't load flash player on android for whatever reason...

Bill, using an iPad, I can't even tell that there is a slide show to be viewed when using the Safari browser that comes with the iPad. The iPad is running iOS v5.1.1

It has been brought to my attention that the Lakeland Electric Company has a Customer Academy.  Some of you may already know about this and take part in these classes.  

Customer Academy 
The Lakeland Electric Customer Academy is a free, interactive informational program that allows you, our customer, the opportunity to gain insight into your community-owned electric utility and discuss energy industry ?hot topics? with subject matter experts.  

The academy will consist of six (6),  two-hour evening sessions, with sessions held on every other Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.  Refreshments will be served prior to each session between 5:30-6:00 p.m. Participants are highly encouraged to attend all six sessions to get the most from the program. I have a complete atv station that I have never put on the air ! Do have all documentation for unit. It is 50 watts.

South CARS 4th Annual Tailgate party and Luncheon.

You don't have to be a member to take part in this fun event.  Put the call sign with a face by getting together and spending some quality "eyeball" QSO time.  

The Tailgate is free to attend.  Anyone can attend the luncheon and you don?t have to be a South CARS member to take part.

January 4, 2014 - Lakeland Florida

The Golden Corral, US 98 North, Lakeland

The Fourth Annual Lakeland, Florida. Tailgate party/Luncheon get together.

Where: The Golden Corral Buffet & Grill , 4705 US Route 98 North, Lakeland, Florida 33810

Price: $8.49 + Tax + Tip for all you care to eat

When: Jan. 4, 2014 Tail gate starts at 9:00 am followed by lunch at 12:00 noon.

Tailgating will be provided in the rear 4 rows of the parking lot. Please limit all tailgate items
for sale or trade to your trunk or tailgate only. Absolutely no chairs, tables, tarps etc..
Come out and join us for a great time and meet many of your Net Controls and Members. A 2/440 hand held FM radio will be chanced off at the luncheon.
