LARC,

Tomorrow night (Fri) is the annual Night of Nights when the coastal
telegraph stations all mark the time when commercial CW disappeared from
HF and MF radio. You can copy them typically in the 6 to 12 MHz range.

You can also work K6KPH on CW in the HF hambands and get a nice QSL.

This is for those that use/have an Yaesu FT-897D

I know LGD Electronics makes the FT Meter for the FT-897D but I was wondering if there is a external monitor for Yaesu FT-897D like the one you can get for an Icom 7000?
If there is please let me know I like to get one and I'm also trying to save a friend from selling his 6 week old FT-897D only for the fact he doesn't like the display on the radio it's self.
Someone please direct me in the right direction.

George,
The FT-897D does not support connecting a monitor per-se, only
connecting an external FT Meter. Even the FT Meter will only display the
single parameter (the one selected using the FT-897D's menu). The only
way you could connect an "external monitor" would be to connect a
computer/PC over the CAT cable and use PC software like HRD to display
information on the screen, but I don't think this is what you are
looking for. If you did decide to go the PC/CAT route, be aware that
this also disables the ability to us the radio's internal antenna-tune
capability, since the antenna-tuner connects via the CAT connection.

Thanks Tom, I thought it might of been nice to had one if it was able to support it. I'm OK with the way the radio is or would not had bought it.
I was really trying to save another Ham from selling his that is 6 weeks old for only the fact he doesn't like the small display screen on it.
I for one am not selling mind. I like mind too much and I now use it as a back up for HF but is now my main VHF/UHF rig here in the shack.
I did use it once in the mobile back in May on the road trip to Charlotte, NC and then on to Dayton,OH. 
I was able to reach at anytime day or night back to Joy here in Auburndale. So the set up mobile worked great.
Now my FT-950 has a little brother (haha).
Only reason I didn't leave it in the mobile is really 2 reason. 1 it's still under warranty and 2 I had my 706mkIIg fixed ( Bad Relay on the PA) and returning that one back to mobile use as the 706mkIIg has the remote head.
Anyway thanks for your respond and reply.

The FT-897D does not support connecting a monitor per-se, only connecting an external FT Meter. Even the FT Meter will only display the single parameter (the one selected using the FT-897D's menu). The only way you could connect an "external monitor" would be to connect a computer/PC over the CAT cable and use PC software like HRD to display information on the screen, but I don't think this is what you are looking for. If you did decide to go the PC/CAT route, be aware that this also disables the ability to us the radio's internal antenna-tune capability, since the antenna-tuner connects via the CAT connection.
