Hey folks, I am looking for a 12V DC power supply capable of supplying
50A at 100% duty cycle, or a pair of them supplying 25A at 100% duty
cycle. In this application, efficiency is key and I'd like to keep the
heat and noise to an absolute minimum. Suggestions welcome!

This is what I have been an hp dps 6000 since my power supply went out. It 
is good for 47 amps. They are used in server farms. They are quiet, and very 
cheap, when purchased used.

 Ham Radio Operators are now part of the Rattlesnake Runs Communication Team. Operators offer accurate and reliable voice communication support between the Aid and Medical Stations along the course and the Event Command Center. We are seeking FCC-licensed amateur radio operators. Volunteers are not required to have prior experience, but if you do have experience with marathons, road races, adventure relays, or similar public service events let us know. Volunteers must be able to supply their own equipment.( a 2m handie-talkie)

Reverse beacons were a hot topic at this past weekend's Huntsville Hamfest. Search for reverse beacons to learn more. In short the system listens for your transmission from worldwide locations then reports via the Internet which locations heard your signal. You can do this by bands to see what band is open. ?The QRP gang is using this to great affect.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. Shower and thunderstorm activity associated with an elongated area
of low pressure located several hundred miles east of the Windward
Islands has become a little better organized during the past few
hours. Additional slow development of this system is possible during
the next day or two, and a tropical depression could form as the
system moves west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph across the Lesser
Antilles and into the Caribbean Sea. After that time, land
interaction could limit development potential over the weekend.
Regardless of tropical cyclone formation, gusty winds and heavy
rainfall are possible across portions of the Lesser Antilles, Puerto
Rico, and the Virgin Islands on Thursday night and Friday. Interests
in those islands should closely monitor the progress of this system.
An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to
investigate this system tomorrow afternoon, if necessary.

While keeping track of some of the worlds hamfests I spent some time reading about the Tokyo Ham Fair.  Here are some of the newsworthy items.


The Tokyo Ham Fair, Aug 23-24, 2014, brought out some new radios by the top manufacturers.  The Yaesu FT-897 has a replacement, the Yaesu FT-991 HF/50/144/430 MHz transceiver.  http://qrznow.com/yaesu-ft-991/    
There does not seem to be any replacement coming for the FT-817.

The US ham community does not have a bunch of English material readily available for any items that Kenwood may have released.  A few articles in Japanese exist but the Google translate page was slow on the uptake.  My computer has been waiting for 15 minutes now for a Kenwood article to translate.  It appears that there is too much Flash presentation going on for a successful translation.  

Take the time to Google the Tokyo Ham Fair 2014 and see all the new ?Stuff? that the Ham Fair had to offer this year.

As you may already know, there will be a presentation at the September LARC on Digital Multimeters. Meter Accuracy and Resolution will be among the topics discussed. After the presentation, there will be an opportunity, for those that bring their multimeters to the meeting, to test your meter for accuracy. There will be 8 precision DC voltage references and 2 precision resistance references available, so that you can see if your multimeter still meets its accuracy specifications in these areas. 

 If you plan on bringing your multimeter to the meeting, please try to bring the manual for it (if you still have it) so that you will be able to see if your meter is still within its specifications. Additionally, or instead of bringing the manual, if you email me the manufacturer and model number of your meter before Monday, I will try to lookup the specifications and have a sheet printed up for your multimeter indicating the reference that was measured, the readings provided by your multimeter, the variance from the reference, and an indication if it is still within specification.
