Our second speaker will be Andrew, WX4AMS, with a presentation on QSL cards and a bit of information on their history.. We will also have cake, cookies, coffee, and bottled water ready when you arrive. If you are planning on testing we will start testing at 5:30pm. See you at the meeting, Rich - N4ESS -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... He was a highly respected TV journalist. He was a long-time leader in the Tampa Amateur Radio club and a founder of the Radio Association of North Tampa (RANT) which operates multiple VHF repeaters with EchoLink capability and a D-Star repeater with Gateway capability. Warren was a highly dedicated ham operator and led in work to assist other hams in developing and improving their personal ham stations. His leadership will be sorely missed. On 4/6/2015 3:33 PM, Biff Craine wrote: It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we lost a good friend and long time amateur radio operator, Warren Elly, W1GUD, in his battle with adrenal cancer. Warren was 64 and had been battling cancer publically through a blog called ?The Way Forward?. Warren had been a ham for around 50 years, starting in New England before Florida became his home. He was a constant source of guidance and inspiration, not only for the Tampa Amateur Radio Club, but for all amateurs in which he came in contact with. Warren was an on air journalist at Channel 13 until his retirement nearly two years ago. Many of you knew him in both his professional life and his personal life. Warren currently served as the trustee of the W4DUG call sign for the Tampa Amateur Radio Club and had served TARC through the many years from the days on Davis Islands until his passing. He was the driving force behind the Field Day success of placing 2nd nationwide and spearheaded the antenna project at the clubhouse that brought all of us that portion of our remarkable facility. He was an avid fan of AM broadcasting, especially with his favored boat anchor equipment, yet he was in the forefront of innovation recently acquiring a Flex software defined radio. He was survived by his remarkable wife Lona who fought by his side this awful disease, his sons and grandchildren. Amateur radio has suffered a terrible loss. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... A band plan is a voluntary suggestion on where different modes should operate on a band and is not an FCC rule. Nevertheless it is something that we should all be paying attention to, especially with the erosion that we have seen in recent years to our CW band segments. I encourage all of you to take a very careful look at it and to file your comments with the ARRL. You can find the band plan details along with information on how to file comments at http://www.arrl.org/news/arrl-seeks-member-input-on-draft-hf-band-plan-propo sals . The ARRL has set a deadline of April 19th for the filing of comments. Many great instructional references were published several years ago and we'll be paralleling portions of each as we ramp up CWTD participants and podcasters on the theory and design of the project, while stage-by-stage building Dave Benson's K1SWL classic little 30m kit. (A limited run of the SW30 Kit is being done for CWTDers, with permission and assistance from K1SWL. Details to be announced during this month's episode.) We meet on the Teamspeak internet conferencing service, using a client that readily works on PCs, Macs and Android platforms. You just need a mic, speaker and Internet connection! All details and instructions are on the CWTD home page www.cwtd.org , along with the whiteboard material and hour-long podcasts from all past 71 episodes. We've covered some very entertaining and informative ground in previous episodes . and the "Elmer 101 and SW30" series will be no exception! Sure hope you can join us as we start by exploring the basics of radio design in this series . and then reach for the stars! 73, George N2APB & Joe N2CX www.cwtd.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
