All Amateur Radio operators, Cert Team members, and their families are
invited to our Polk ARES Christmas Get-together this Saturday, December
12th, at the Polk County EOC.  Doors will open around 5 PM and we will
start cooking burgers & dogs around 5:45.

Polk Emergency Management will be providing the burgers and dogs, we just
need to provide some condiments, sides, deserts and what ever you want to
drink (no alcohol, please!).

Please let me know if you will be attending, number of guests and what you
will be bringing so we don't get too many duplicates.

So we don't send a lot of emails to everyone, please reply directly to me

I am new to owning a couple of Ham Radio's and have received a lot of info from Jim Johnson ( N4ESS } I followed his advice to listen in to Thursday's Night Sign in and found a few things of Interest but as a Person who uses a Radio all the time I tried to ask a question and stated I had not taken the test for Ham / Ameture Radio / ?Test but do plan on taken it at you club & becoming a member. I do know by the FCC Rules I should have a call Sign but I asked one question and felt like I was a Piece of trash. Don , couldn't you have told me to go down a Frequency or something and had giving some Info ? ? Jim Johnson has been very helpful on most things and I know what it takes to become a Ham. I Am Disabled and my Memory is not good but I do ok. My question is why couldn't you say hey ( Bill Prescott ) Maybe we can have some help to get what you need to talk ? I Listened for a while and there were Rash's , Maybe Hemorrhoids , Tooth Ache but I could not learn anything or was I offered Anything.?
Other then becoming a Ham , What is you Friendship ? ?Bill Johnson _ N4ESS _ says it is a great club to belong to. I would like to join but as I was told I need a Family Membership so my Mother can Enjoy Learning as I Do. I have know problem with that and that would be fine.?
My one last Question , If a Family was stuck in the middle of the Everglades and used a Ham Radio , Would you turn them down for no License ?? ?I have see this in Broward County Florida , 1980's .

ISS SSTV activity planned for late Dec. 2015

 

The ARISS Russia team is making plans to support a couple of Slow Scan TV
(SSTV) events in the next few months on 145.800 MHz FM.

 

The first session is being targeted for Dec 26-27 (subject to change) to
celebrate 15 years of ARISS school contacts with the ISS crew.

 

The down link mode will be PD120 which should allow for the opportunity to
receive more images in a single pass. Watch for updates and additional
information as it becomes available.

 

The ISS puts out a strong signal on 145.800 MHz FM and a 2m handheld with a
1/4 wave antenna should be enough to receive it. The FM transmission uses 5
kHz deviation which is standard in much of the world. In IARU Region 1
(British Isles, Europe, Africa) FM equipment is usually set by default to
the narrower 2.5 kHz deviation.

 

Many FM rigs can be switched been wide and narrow deviation FM filters. For
best results you should select the filter for wider deviation FM. Handhelds
all seem to have a single wide filter fitted as standard.
