Every April 18, hams around the globe observe World Amateur Radio Day.

at least one ham radio related thing today.  Get on the radio, call a fellow
ham, or better yet tell someone you think might be interested about ham
radio.  Our community is beginning to grow and we need to support local and

I believe there are at least 4 or 5 (including ours-K4LKL) in the Lakeland/Tampa Metro areas. From what I understand, the Fusion aspect doesn't tend to be very active however.

Roger,

 

There are Fusion repeaters in the area from Tampa to Orlando.  The input of K4LKL is both digital and FM.  Its output is all FM.  The EPARS repeater in Dade City, 146.880, is setup for both at one time. FM in FM out and Digital in Digital out.  You need to activate tone squelch to keep from hearing the digital if you are on FM.  I have used that one from the house and mobile.  The most activity is FM but there is an influx of digital on the weekends and evenings.  Two different modes using the repeater at the same time.  It works nicely.  The Fusion movement is the same as different modes have always been.  In the 60s AMers were all aghast at the SSB stations that were invading their space.  The SSB mode would surely never catch on.  Why would anyone want to sound like Donald Duck when you were not tuned properly.  AM now resides in the bands as nostalgia with a hardcore group of individuals that keep the mode alive.  I am glad they keep it going.  Digital modes come with each new manufacturers idea of what the digital standard should be.  Only time will tell how this plays out.  I have gotten into the fusion mode with a FT1DR and an FTM400DR.  They do both FM and digital with an added bonus of APRS.  I will tend to play with the trend as I only get to make this trip one time.  I have been a ham for 50 years and as with all good things my radio years will fade.  I hope to have several blocks checked in my ham radio career before my block is checked.  

 

I don?t know if that helps but it is the way I choose to conduct my hobby efforts.  

 

Remember there is always EME (Moonbounce), satellites, and JT9.

For those that are following SolarImpulse flight around the world they are
going to launch from Hawaii in about 20 minutes.  Use the link I sent
earlier to watch live coverage.  Solar powered aircraft that is flying
around the world in low legs.  Today starts the flight from Hawaii to
Moffett Airport, Mountain View, California. They have rolled it out and are
assessing the changing winds.  I believe the flight will be 5 days to
California.

If you are looking for full Fusion repeater as in digital in and digital out then I suggest the?
146.880 K4EX East Pasco Amater Radio Society?in Dade City.?http://eparsonline.org
? ? ? The wires-x is set up for the digital side of the repeater. It is linked to the YAESU System Fusion network. This is the only repeater that I know of that is on Wires X in the WCF area. I invite anyone with a fusion radio to use the repeater/node. Feel free to change rooms via YOUR radio. Come play with it and enjoy the Fusion experience.?
????There is another Digital repeater on 145.330. WA4GDN/R Gulf Coast Amateur Radio Club. in Land-o-lakes. http://gulfcoastara.org?
????On the digital side of this repeater it is currently linked to the reflector FCS1 module 6, which is the USA 'room' on that network. It is not part of the WIRES-X network.

Have as much FUN as possible!

When: April 30 ? May 1, 2016
Two ten hour operating periods, with a ten hour break:
Saturday, April 30 1600Z (Noon EDT) - 0159Z (9:59 PM EDT)
Sunday, May 1 1200Z (8 AM EDT) - 2159Z (5:59 PM EDT)
20 Hours total

Exchange: RST and County (Florida stations)
RST and QTH (State, Province or Country for non-FL)

Where: 10, 15, 20 and 40 Meters
CW : 28.035, 21.035, 14.035, 7.035 MHz
SSB: 28.485, 21.335, 14.260, 7.195 MHz
(Approximate center frequencies; lots of activity spreads out from there!)

At least 15 Mobile stations will be on and most can be found here:
CW: 7.025-7.035, 14.040-14.050, 21.040-21.050, 28.040-28.050 MHz
SSB: Please note there are no longer designated SSB Mobile Windows; mobiles will generally be found in the low General-class portion of each phone band.
If you are not mobile, *please* refrain from calling CQ in these windows.

As you may know, Ecuador hams are operating earthquake nets on 7.060 MHz ? PLEASE AVOID OPERATING ON OR EVEN NEAR THIS FREQUENCY ? Thanks!

Single Op, Single Op Assisted, Multi-Single, Multi-Multi, Mobile, School and SWL.
Three power levels: QRP, Low, and High Power.
Use CW, SSB or both.

March For Babies

 

Saturday April 30, 2016

 

Volunteers needed

 

8:00 am - app 11:00 am (this is an hour later than last year as the walk
will be around only one lake.)

(Location: First Presbyterian Church, 175 Lake Hollingsworth Dr, Lakeland,
FL 33801)

 

We will meet at the church at approx. 8am that is the setup time.  You can
arrive a bit earlier 7:45 if you want to get a good parking place.  We will
be operating on the LARC repeater frequency 146.685 with a PL tone of 127.3

 

Once you park just proceed to the front of the church and you will find the
group from LARC.    

 

The walk this year will be around just Lake Hollingsworth  and we should
wrap up around 11am.  Bring yourself and a WT and that is all you need.  

 

If anyone needs a radio we will have a couple of extras.

Good morning!

On the hunt for any current Technician manuals - we have a new Polk County
CERT group that was recently trained and a few of the group have inquired
about becoming Hams.  If you have a current Technician manual laying around
that you would like to donate to the cause, please bring it to the next
meeting and I will make sure it gets used.  Who knows - might even get some
new members out of this!

VISTI - we will be collecting for VISTI again at the May meeting.  Food
items, personal items, pet food - and yes, even cash (checks made out to
VISTI) would be appreciated.  I will be there to collect and will make sure
to get it to VISTI ASAP.

MARCH for BABIES donations,

 

At least 3 of the ladies from the LARC group will be walking for March for
Babies on Saturday.  If you want to support this group you can make your
donations at the below listed link to the LARC walking team.  This donation
goes to the March for Babies. They have already received a few donations and
one of them is from LARC in the amount of $75.00 which was approved by the
board at the last board meeting.  There is an option to give as much or as
little as you see fit.
