[LakelandARC] Pi Day

Yes, but the Pi in Raspberry Pi is not the mathematical Pi we are all familiar with. It comes from the language the Raspberry Pi was initially intended to run called Python, an interpreted language in the tradition of Dartmouth Basic. If you think Raspberry is a strange name for a computer, think again. Most are familiar with the Apple. Few give its name much thought. Though not popular in this country, the Britts are familiar with the Tangerine, Apricot and Acorn computer systems. Since the Raspberry Pi originated in Britton, it is not surprising that it also was named after a fruit.

PS Apple once promoted a personal assistant they dubbed Newton. Could it be that the Newton concept was a figment in Steve Jobs imagination. Unfortunately, it was system that never came to full fruition. :-)

The number π is a mathematical constant, the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, commonly approximated as 3.14159. It has been represented by the Greek letter "π" since the mid-18th century, though it is also sometimes spelled out as "pi".

I'll take a large piece of warm, delicious, homemade, rhubarb pie, thank you. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream, just to top it off.

Remember that tomorrow, 3/14, is Pi Day. For those of you that are not familiar with Pi day the take a look at this link for Pi Day information. http://www.piday.org/

This is not about your Raspberry Pie project or the apple pie that grandma made. It’s all about the numbers.

      Have a great Pi Day,
