Hi All,

As you know, it?s been a year since we started meeting at our current 
facility. They have treated us well, and it?s been a great home for our 
growing club. However, as time has gone on the board has been 
considering other locations for a number of reasons. The club is 
growing, and we are expanding our activities - our meeting location 
needs have evolved.

Several of our members belong to the Parkview Baptist Church, right down 
the street from our current meeting location. The board has visited 
Parkview, and feels that it would be an excellent fit for our club?s 
needs, with plenty of space, plenty of parking, and the ability to 
accommodate many of the activities that we?d like to do as a club. We 
just finalized the plans yesterday, so apologies for the short notice. 
Effective Monday, May 7th (our next general meeting), we will be meeting 
at:

Parkview Baptist Church, 509 Parkview Pl, Lakeland, FL 33805.

Bill will be posting some info to the blog, with parking instructions 
and directions.

A big thanks to the board, and especially Bob, KM4BAO, for taking care 
of the on-site details of the move while I have been tied up with work 
during the past few weeks.

At the meeting the other night, I passed around a couple of sign up 
sheets for additional LARC activities.

One was for a QRP operators group. I know we have several people (myself 
included) in the club who like portable and park operation, CW, qrp 
rigs, etc. I'd like to get a group going that can meet up once a 
month(?) at a convenient location (maybe a state or county park 
somewhere in Lakeland), bring radios, snacks, batteries, antennas, 
whatever you want and just generally hang out, play some radio, and have 
a good time! Nothing fancy, informal, just an excuse to get out and 
operate in the parks for an hour or two (or however long you want!). 
Let's figure out what works for everyone, and we will get this rolling.

Several people have already signed up on the paper sheet, but I wanted 
to get the word out there for others who may be interested.

At the meeting the other night, I passed around a couple of sign up

One was for a kit building group. Four people filled out their 
information showing an interest - KK4BMI, KK4ITX, AB4XK, and N4HCZ. This 
is something I have much less experience with than the other, qrp-ops 
group. What I am asking is twofold:

1) Are there other members besides those 4 who would be interested in 
forming an informal builders group?

2) Is there any one of you who is at least semi-experienced in building, 
and would be willing to spearhead an effort to help other people along 
and learn?

What I had in mind doesn't have to be specifically radios, but maybe 
antennas, tuners, keyers, anything really. Maybe start off with 
something relatively simple and inexpensive, like the Rockmite

This is something I would like to participate in myself! However, I do 
not have the experience with building or (more importantly) enough time 
to devote to leading and organizing the group properly. If someone

One of the comments I  hear often is that newer licensees don't always 
get the technical training that was once required to become a ham. Here 
is your chance to make a difference, and help newer guys (like me!) gain 
that kind of hands on experience.

They may give a discount for a large club order, I don't know that but can

At the meeting Monday night I mentioned the Hurricane Awareness Tour and
that they wee finishing up with a display here at Lakeland Linder.  Well -
that part is true.  Where at Lakeland Linder was not.....

The booths and display of the plane will be at the main terminal off Drain
Field.  If you go to the NOAA hanger off of Pipkin, you will be waiting by
yourself...

The public is invited to be there from 2PM to 5PM.

This is a once a month sprint (info below) sponsored by 4SQRP, it would be best if you would become a member prior to the event (no dues) and that way anyone that you QSO with can get some extra points.? It would be good practice for the Thursday eve. net that we are trying to start up also.? 
CW(5w) or Phone(10w) one Sprint fits all, 7pm - 9pm Central = 8pm - 10pm Eastern.? Be sure to spot yourself on QRPSpots (http://www.qrpspots.com/).? If you?need to use 1,200 watts go ahead just don't report it as QRP but the QRPer can count the QSO for his report.

Second Sunday Sprint -
Occurs on the second Sunday of each month, 7 to 9 PM Central
 Any mode, any band (except WARC & 60 mtrs) -    
   - Suggested frequencies: standard calling freq. plus 7122 and 3564 (CW), and 3985, 7285, and 14285 (SB).   
as well as the usual QRP watering holes.
 QSO's with the same station on different bands are allowed. CW and SB portions of a band count as two bands.
   
   - Calling CQ is suggested to be "CQ 4S"
   -  Exchange is "RST, SPC, member number (power if non-member)"
   - 5 Watts max CW, 10 Watts PEP max SB.
 The station with the most contacts each month will be emailed a certificate. Furthermore, the top three stations with the most SSS contacts during the year will also receive certificates via email.
 Scores are submitted via the qrpcontest.com/4sqrp website (compliments of W8DIZ).
