This Sunday the 18th of August, from 1 to 5 EDT
QRP'ers will be out in force.
Here are the frequencies to listen on:
Suggested frequencies:
The QRP "Watering Holes"

For CW
80 Meters ~ 3.560 MHz
40 Meters ~ 7.040 and 7.030 MHz - also consider using from 7.114 to 7.122
MHz for a "slower" speed CW area.  We want to have everyone involved!
20 Meters ~ 14.060 MHz
15 Meters ~ 21.060 MHz
10 Meters ~ 28.060 MHz

For SSB
80 Meters ~ 3.985 MHz
40 Meters ~ 7.285 MHz
20 Meters ~ 14.285 MHz
15 Meters ~ 21.385 MHz
10 Meters ~ 28.885 MHz, and for those Novices and Technicians wanting to
try a little SSB QRP - try hanging around 28.385 MHz.

These are suggested starting points, of course. Feel free to spread out and

I listed my FT-DX1200 on QRZ, if anyone is interested. I have a signalink
for it too, which makes a great FT8 radio. Let me know if you're interested

It's a great radio, but I've replaced it with an Ft-991 which fits my

The LARC repeater now has EchoLink capability. So why should you care? Here
are some of the benefits that await you:

   You are cruising around town and would like to join in on the Wednesday
   rag chew, but you don?t have your HT with you, or you have it, but are out
   of range. Connect to the Lakeland repeater using EchoLink using your
   smartphone. EchoLink will make your phone function just like an HT.

If you?ve never tried EchoLink, now is as good a time as any to take the
plunge. You should know by now that you can connect to the club?s repeater
via your cell phone or computer. This is only one option. There are more.
You can also connect person to person. The best way to experiment with this
is to find an EchoLink buddy; someone like you who has installed the
software on their smart phone, tablet, laptop or tower. If they have, and
are logged into the EchoLink system, you will see their call sign listed.
Most likely their call sign will show up under North America, United
States, and Area 4. When you see their call sign, double click on it and
the two of you will be connected, node to node. No repeater necessary. This
will even work if your friend decides to visit Timbuktu. Give it a try.

Need an official copy of your Ham Radio License? There are several ways to
go about this. Here is one that worked for me.

Go to
https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/systems-utilities/universal-licensing-system

Enter your FRN number and your password followed by submit. Forgot your
password, then go through the drill.

On the next page click on Request a Duplicate, under the sidebar to the
right labeled *Work on this license.*

After you complete the application you will be emailed an *Authorization
link* that is good for 30 days. Clicking on this link will bring up an
*Official
Copy* of your license in PDF form. Note, this is not a *Reference Copy*
which can be obtained by anyone.

There is no charge for this service.

SARNET NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) management decided on Thursday August 15, 2019 to end all support for SARNET.  This is NOT the SARNET Administrator.  This action will have an immediate affect on SARNET since ongoing maintenance activities have also been stopped.  In addition, it will lead to the slow-death of SARNET as problems occur that are not addressed. It is particularly disturbing that this decision was made in the middle of hurricane season.

If you are willing, we need you to send a letter or email to the chief engineer of the FDOT. We have prepared a form letter for you to print, sign, and mail to the FDOT. A link to it is below. You can also cut and paste the letter into an email if you prefer. Of course you are free to write your own letter.  We only ask that you be courteous and professional in your comments so we can move FDOT back to a supporting position for this important communications resource.

*WHAT IS SARNET?The Statewide Amateur Radio Network (SARnet) is a network
of linked UHF voice repeaters that serves the State of Florida. The
repeaters are operated by their local trustees and the network that
connects them together does not interfere with the local use of the
repeaters. These UHF repeaters were specifically chosen in part because the
voice traffic on them is light. This helps ensure that long conversations
and rag-chews are rare on SARnet since any SARnet traffic brings up ALL of
the repeaters on the network. But always remember when using these UHF
frequencies that the government has primary use of the amateur spectrum

WCF SECTION PRESS RELEASE #19-26 - 8/22/19:  FDOT TALKING WITH SARNET
MANAGEMENT TEAM ABOUT RESUMING SARNET SUPPORT

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Chief Engineer issued
the following statement on Wednesday August 21, which was posted on the
SARNET website, concerning the initial decision to discontinue
maintenance on the SARNET:

"Thank you for your input regarding the Statewide Amateur Radio Network
(SARNET) devices on the Florida Department of Transportation
(Department) communications infrastructure used by amateur radio
operators.  We are currently evaluating several options available to
the Department concerning the future of the SARNET devices and no
decision has yet been made.  Thanks again for your input."

The SARNET management team has reported that the support for SARNET has
been overwhelming and that FDOT has been in contact with them to see
what the next step might be.  Sending in your email and letters has
sent the right message:  Letting FDOT know how SARNET supported
emergency management and the communities during the past hurricanes have
alerted them to what SARNET means to emergency communications in the
state of Florida.

The SARNET management team extends their thanks and asks for everyone to
be patient. The team is working with officials, and as soon as they know
more they will post it to SARNET website.

Also announced today on the SARNET website was the donation of a Hytera
repeater to the SARNET network to provide a link into SARNET for the
National Hurricane Center in Miami.

I have been asked by several folks about what is transpiring with the
SARnet network over the past few days.  I had sent out the WCF response on
the 22nd, and want to follow it with an update that has been posted on the
SARnet website.

Some progress to report...
The letter writing campaign has been effective.  Per a request from FDOT we
have taken down the save SARNET message. Late today FDOT clarified that the
August 15, 2019 directive to field technicians that prevented them from
supporting SARNET only applied to billable work. We believe this
clarification means that field technicians can once again support SARNET on
their own time."

This will be the last reminder that the September Monthly meeting will not
take place as scheduled due to hurricane Dorian. I must add, while most
recent forecasts indicate less of a threat, we must still remain alert.
Even if the center misses us we will most likely experience some additional
