Some time ago I was looking for help with learning CW, looking for a local Elmer but found no one for a coach....... last December I tried SKCC http://www.skccgroup.com/member_services/beginners_corner/
and then all the lights came on !!

I joined the no charge group (Nbr: 19,567) and discovered thousands of operators around the world ready to help me learn and have a QSO too.  Their website and overall organization seems flawless. QRS (slower Code) is no problem as many are in your boat too.

I?m not sure if the link above will get you to the Beginners Help if you?re not a member but since it does not cost anything you might as well sign up.  Outside of the ARRL this may be one of the largest groups of Hams in the world.

Ya!, this is a Straight Key Group (SKcc) but you can use any gear that forces you to make the Dits and Dahs with the correct spacing....... so a Cootie, Paddle or even others that you can adjust to mimic a SK........ just no automatic stuff.

CW is a fun aspect/mode of Ham Radio that used to be a requirement to earn your Ticket and it kept many folks back from their license, today many enjoy CW because it is just plain fun to be able to communicate with less power over longer distances in terrible conditions with just a ?dit? and a ?dah? !!

Check out the CW Page on the ZAARC.org website for more info as we dig deeper into the  wonderful world of CW, QRP, Parkpeditions, SOTA and much more. I never realized the real breadth of the CW community, it is unmatched by light years of any other Ham Radio mode , bar none.

Perhaps in the Fall we can get a local CW Net/Ragchew on HF ?

For all you hams out there using the repeater, knock yourself out. We are
happy that you are taking advantage of this service the club provides.
However, a word of caution is in order. There is a danger that, wrapped up
in an intense QSO, you may pass out from lack of oxygen. *Remember, you
must take a breath between transmissions, and most important of all, you
must identify yourself every ten minutes.*
I know, time flies when you are having fun, but this is the rule we must
live by. So have a ball. Enjoy the mode, but please remember to ID yourself
every ten minutes, and for goodness sake, take a breath once in a while.
That will give others a chance to join in on the discussion.

As I mentioned on the weekly ARES net Wednesday night, there will be a
Skywarn training session on Saturday, August 17th from 9 AM to 12 PM at the
EOC led by Dan Noah.  This training is being held primarily for the Polk
County CERT teams, and they have graciously invited us to attend as well.
You will need to email Jim Stewart (w4xds at outlook.com) to reserve a seat.
Not too often do we get in-house Skywarn training, so if you need to re-up
your cert now would be a good time.

As promised here?s a WSPR (200 mw) from Wells Harbor this afternoon over about 1-1/2 hours using a 7ft Telescopic SS and a Wolf River Coil. The SWR was 1.16.

This is the first try at portable WSPR for me.  I checked my IPad for time accuracy before I left my QTH and apparently all worked correctly.

What this all would indicate is that a 4w CW signal should be readable at these locations.  As you can see a Florida station picked me up....... wish that there were more FLs on the air.

My antenna setup can be seen on my QRZ Page and on the ZAARC website on the QRP Page, other events just above the Links (https://www.zaarc.org/WellsHarbor.pdf).  It?s amazing how much location effects results.  If you look at the ZAARC page I am basically at the same spot...... the view is to the South.
