Actually you have your choice of QST (monthly) or On The Air (bi-monthly, aimed at new hams). Additionally members have online access to QST, On the Air, National Contest Journal and QEX!

Thursday night is net night in the Lakeland Amateur Radio Club! The action kicks off at 6:30 with the Fusion net and Lee, N4LEH is net control. At 7:30 is the LARC Trader's Net on the FM side with Dan, NZ1P as your net control operator (although if anyone else would like to be net control, Dan would be happy ?

I've read where the ARRL is already on top of this. Doesn't mean it won't happen but I know they're not going to take it lying down.

Considering that it averages to $5/year for the license term, I'd do it. I easily get that much out of ham radio. I pay a whole lot more than that for other things. But I get that a whole lot of people are going to be in an uproar since licenses have been free for a long time, and let's face it...hams are notoriously cheap. I think the people for whom it will cause the biggest problem are the ones who are constantly changing their callsign.

That's one reason I think it's imperative that we all comment on the filing on the FCC website and remind them of all the times hams have helped out in emergencies. Just in the last few days with hurricane Laura the Hurricane Watch Net was on over 29 hours, and I'd be willing to be there are hams helping out in the affected areas right now.

Be aware, while comments could be useful, this largely has to do with changes to the laws on fees across all radio services (including commercial). Ray Baums act ? requires that the FCC switch from a Congressionally-mandated fee structure to a cost-based system of assessment.?

So this is pretty much a legally required change, the way I?m reading it.

Once it is published in the "Congressional Record" (probably 2 to 3 weeks away) comments will be opened, and can be posted through the FCC website.Certainly a fee will be assessed, but comments can be directed toward lowering the fee for amateur licenses.
