NVIS Theory suggest that your horizontal antenna should be between .10 and .15 wavelengths high. We selected 10 to 15 feet because we normally would be setting up portable using PVC pipe as antenna supports and that height is a good compromise for 80, 60 and 40 meters which would be the normal amateur bands used for NVIS communications. The U.S Military utilizes an AS-2259/GR antenna with a center support pole of 15 feet for NVIS communications. You can do a web search and find the plans for building such an antenna. DX-Engineering sells a kit (minus PVC pipe) for building such an antenna. > > If you are interested in learning more about the Theory behind NVIS Communications you can do a web search and find a free PDF download of the manual: Near Vertical Incidence Skywave ? The FoF2 frequency has been consistently running at 5 Mhz at the 1400 UTC time frame. So this indicates we should use the 75 meter band to stay as a close but under the FoF2 frequency. We will open up the test on 3.913 Mhz with the ability to shift to 5.371.5 Mhz if necessary. We get the FoF2 data from the Australian Space Services website at http://www.swc.bom.gov.au/HF_Systems/6/5/1 . The map is centered on 180 degrees of longitude. Take note of the time in UTC on the top of the map and the color of the band over Florida which indicates the FoF2 as referenced on the right side of the map. We ran a series of tests back in the latter part of 2009 and earlier part of 2010. This test is a continuation of that testing process. We will run future tests looking at other NVIS ideas and hope to get the support of the hams in the West Central Florida (WCF) ARRL Section. These tests enhance two of my personal primary interests in ham radio, one being setting up my station in the field (portable) and the other being emergency communications. Basically, any lot that says "Permit Only" is available after 5pm. But make sure that you have your First Friday Exhibitor Placard for your front window--particularly if you are parking before 5pm. *Bring Lights!: **It gets dark early, so don't forget to bring lights with extension cords and tape (if you wish). It's not mandatory, but it will help First Friday visitors see you better. * *Weather Update:* A quick reminder that we are a *"rain or shine" event* (except in the case of severe or unsafe weather conditions like a hurricane, tornado or hail). We will make sure the roads are empty, closed off, and ready for exhibitors and vendors at 5pm regardless of rain in the forecast. */Remember: Per your exhibitor contract, you are not allowed to leave the event before 9pm. It signals to First Friday visitors and other exhibitors that the event is over when it's not./* Call or text 863-259-6971 if you have any questions--please do not email after 12pm on the day of the event. Many responses came back and I checked out links and books, as this topic has often crossed my mind.I'm a kit builder and (very modest) homebrewer/tinkerer. I'd like to understand WSPR and learn how to use it. Maybe a class.... I got into ham radio thanks to my elmer Joe Pirkle - AD4IH. He ran classes for TECH, AND GENERAL LICENSING on weekends. I sure wish classes like that were still available to club members and "could be" club members. I know the Tampa and Villages club hold classes. NVIS Test scheduled for Saturday March 7th at 0900.? The following frequencies may be used: ?75 meters = 3.913 Mhz LSB60 meters = 5.370 Mhz USB (CH-3)40 meters = 7.282 Mhz LSB ?Note: 60 meters is USB in order to keep emissions within the F.C.C. mandated channel limits ?We will obtain the Maximum Useable Frequency (often called the FoF2) info to determine which freq to use. NVIS theory suggest using the amateur band that is closest but below the projected FoF2 frequency. ?Antenna height above ground ? NVIS Theory suggest that your horizontal antenna should be between .10 and .15 wavelengths high. We selected 10 to 15 feet because we normally would be setting up portable using PVC pipe as antenna supports and that height is a good compromise for 80, 60 and 40 meters which would be the normal amateur bands used for NVIS communications. The U.S. Military utilizes an AS-2259/GR antenna with a center support pole of 15 feet for NVIS communications. You can do a web search and find the plans for building such an antenna.? DX-Engineering sells a kit (minus PVC pipe) for building such an antenna. ?If you are interested in learning more about the Theory behind NVIS Communications you can do a web search and find a free PDF download of the manual: Near Vertical Incidence Skywave ? Theory, Techniques and Validation by: Fielder and Farmer. This manual is considered by many to be the ?Bible? of NVIS. ?I will be putting out a ?Communications Procedure Plan? for the test as we get closer to Saturday. ?Enjoy the Hobby ?de KR4X 73 ? ? ? -- Clubhouse open every Monday evening at 7:30 PM General membership meeting on the first Monday of the month Program nights on the third Monday of the month -- To subscribe or unsubscribe from this group, visit http://hamclub.org/wp/?page_id=139 -- Visit our website at http://www.hamclub.org You can now join or renew your membership online --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Tampa Amateur Radio Club" group. Hi John, I'll keep a close eye on the cq@ list admin page for emails sent by you. Two things... 1. You're subscribed using jleahy00 at yahoo.com so all email to the list must come from that address. Email from another address will be queued. 2. Email sent to an address other than the list address will be queued, so if the cq@ list is bcc'd then the message (by default) will be queued until reviewed. This is the default configuration of mailman, per: https://wiki.list.org/DOC/What%20does%20%22message%20has%20implicit%20destination%22%20mean%3F If this indeed turns out to be the problem then there is an option to change to accept such messages, but if disabling this default behavior has a negative impact to the operation of the list then it will be restored to the default configuration.
