[LARC-CQ] missing emails from the October 2020 mailing list archive

Hi folks,

I wanted to send you all an email to explain why some of the messages
you've seen posted to the list are not present in the mailing list
archives. For those of you who have sent email to the list after October
21, 2020, if you want that content to be archived then please resend it
to the list. If it was time-sensitive then I'll leave it up to you
whether or not to resend.

The reason that those messages were not archived is because I was
working with tech support from Dreamhost (our hosting provider) on
solving some pretty severe problems with our mailing list archives. This
all stemmed from an issue a while ago where there was some heated
discussion on the list and a club member (also a member of the mailing
list) sent a virus-infected Microsoft Word doc to the list. This wreaked
all kinds of havoc with our web site, our mailing list, and us being
listed as a malware site by Google. I have since dealt with all of that
fallout, but in the process of dealing with Dreamhost to have our
mailing list archive purged of the virus-infected file, the archive
itself was nearly destroyed. It took several weeks for me to be
connected to competent support personnel and in the end I had to perform
the corrective actions on the archive myself and send to Dreamhost for
import and assimilation. Unfortunately, the time delay for Dreamhost to
export the archive, send to me so that I could repair it, and then send
back to Dreamhost for assimilation meant that any emails sent to the
list during that back-and-forth were lost because I was working on the
archive snapshot from before those messages were sent. This
back-and-forth with Dreamhost happened four times before it was finally
made right. Not fun guys.

So, with that dirty laundry all aired out, let me drop some good news. I
was able to inject all of the email exported from our old Yahoo group
into the mailing list archive, so if you go look at our CQ mailing list
archive you'll see not only all of the email sent to the CQ list since
it was created, but also email send/posted to our Yahoo group going back
to March 2006. It may be interesting reading to some, probably not to
most, but it was important to me (as the admin of the old Yahoo groups)
to restore that LARC history, and it's done.

I hope you can forgive this trouble with the list management and our
hosting provider, I hope to never revisit this process or to have to
sent another email list this one. I hope you're all well.

Best regards,
Mike Oliver, KT2T
