Hi Jim (and LARC Group),
This is a timely message. Similarly, Helene has us completely rethinking our emergency communications plans. I’d be happy to share some ideas at the next meeting. Thank you.

With Hurricane Helene fresh on our minds, a question for our membership.

How many of you have family outside of Polk County? Of those, how many do you have some sort of a communication plan (other than call me when you can)? Something with contingency options, like no power or cell.

As an amateur radio operator, it pains me to say that I have not established a plan, and I have family in Alabama and up in Western North Carolina. It has been a tough couple of days trying to find out if they are ok and what I can do to help them, especially since I sit here with running water, AC and a working toilet, as some of them don't even have cell coverage or even a means to charge a phone - and won't for awhile.

Those of you that do have established plans, would you be willing to share them with the club at our October meeting? It may go along way with helping a fellow ham establish a plan with his or her family.

Let me know, and if you want to include any slides in a presentation I can set that up.

73,

Jim Stewart
