A month or two ago there was some interest in having a local CW gathering on RF, has anything been happening towards that endeavor or was is just a flash in the pan ?

There was talk of HF and VHF/FM also. I have some of the required parts for an FM rig but will have to see what the Interest is before I go further.

If you folks have started something or are still interested in doing so please email me at my CALL at ARRL.NET.
We've been making progress very slowly, John.

Bill Paul and I have made contact CW simplex on 2 meters using some of the ARES assigned frequencies. He and I can copy each other with no problem. After the recent Polk ARES Simplex test on Saturday morning, September 11th, we did some further testing and results on 2M were very disappointing. When the ARES test was over, I simply asked the 20 or so participants to tune to 147.510 and see if they heard any CW there. While we didn't have even distribution throughout the county, I was largely unheard beyond downtown Lakeland from my QTH in northwest Polk County.

So... that leaves HF - probably 10 meters - or Modulated CW using an add-on device to send and receive CW on 2M FM. While the latter might be preferable in that it would be able to include a larger group of operators - (no all bands, all mode requirement of the radio) - there are some drawbacks as well. Our next step is to test the feasibility of 10M operation for local comms with NVIS antennas. So far, only Lee, N4HES, has volunteered to work on the testing - Bill Paul is currently without 10M, so if you're interested, lets pick a time and take a run at it. I'm thinking I might stretch out a very flat dipole about 8-10' off the ground to see if that will work better for essentially local communication on 10 meters. I can have that up by tomorrow morning if you want to give it a shot. I've also seen some flat dipoles with a reflector in parallel about a foot off the ground to kick the signal more vertically.

Send me an email off the LARC CQ distribution at shrevemr@protonmail.com and I'll send you my phone number. Thanks for your interest. 73
Closer reading discloses that you are interested in MCW. My old FT-847 will transmit CW as will Mike?s 817(?)
Still interested?
Oh yeah, and I only have 40m paired ham sticks.
